J.H. Rudolph and Co., Inc. announced today that the Jasper City Streets Paving Project that included Wernsing, Skyview, Division, S. Truman and E. 6th Streets and Henderson Water Utilities Project, including Main, 1st, 3rd, Elm and Water Streets, both won 2012 Quality in Construction Awards for excellence in construction of an asphalt pavement from the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA). NAPA presented the awards to J.H. Rudolph & Co., Inc. in Mid-February during the organization’s 58th Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The Quality in Construction Award recognizes asphalt pavements of excellence that “demonstrate the type of high quality work J.H. Rudolph & Co., Inc. is achieving”, stated Kurt Bechthold, 2012 Chairman of the NAPA Board of Directors, during the award presentation.

J.H. Rudolph & Co., Inc. used asphalt mixes on the Jasper City Streets Project that contained 35 percent reclaimed asphalt pavement, which in turn saved money and also reduced the need for virgin aggregate and binder for the project. Working under heavy traffic, J.H. Rudolph & Co., Inc. produced high-quality asphalt pavements with minimal disruption to the public.

Main Street in Henderson, Kentucky

In Henderson, J.H. Rudolph & Co., Inc. won the award for the mill and overlay of roads in Downtown Henderson in conjunction with the water and sewer work undertaken by the Henderson Water Utility. Working at night to avoid disrupting traffic, J.H. Rudolph & Co., Inc. milled off the old pavement, repaired and leveled the road as needed, raised manholes to the proper level and placed 1-inch overlay on the roads. The completed roads have an excellent appearance and a smooth, high-quality riding surface.

“We are very pleased that our partnerships with the City of Jasper and Henderson Water Utilities on these projects resulted in recognition at a national level. It is our goal to deliver this same caliber of high-quality to every project we complete so the travelling public can experience it on the roads we pave,” commented Jeff Mulzer, President of J.H. Rudolph & Co., Inc.

Thanks to the generous and ongoing donations of its members, Indiana Construction Association (ICA) has two scholarship programs available to students pursuing a degree in the construction field. Eligible candidates must attend, or plan to attend, an Indiana college or university, maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and intend to work in the construction industry in Indiana after graduation. The Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF) manages both scholarship programs.

The Building Division – ICA Scholarship is available to students who have completed at least 60 credit hours in a four-year construction-related program (not a design-related program). Scholarships are limited, and awards may be up to $4,000 per academic year. Recipients must complete the application process each year to be considered for the scholarship.

The Highway, Heavy, and Utility Division – ICA Scholarship is available to students who are pursuing a degree related to the highway, bridge and/or the utility construction industry. Scholarships are limited, and awards may be up to $4,000 per academic year, renewable for up to three years (four years total) of undergraduate study, provided the student re-applies annually and remains qualified for the scholarship.

Click here to access the 2013 Scholarship Guidebook, which contains application instructions. Financial information is requested on the CICF application. However, providing financial information is not required for consideration for either ICA scholarship. The application deadline is March 1, 2013.

Rudolph & Co., Inc.’s ‘Santa’s Secret Toy Shop” themed float took home the top prize, ’2012 Best in Parade Float’.

The 2012 J.H. Rudolph & Co., Inc. float design and creation was headed up by employee Justin Kloszewski. Many employees, and their families, volunteered time, man power and great ideas including Stephanie Forney, Bryan Rucker, Rosemary Hall, Natalie Maasberg, Angela Kifer, Donnie Shaw, Becky Fitzsimmons and Grant Johnson.

This years float featured two J.H. Rudolph asphalt silos that Santa’s elves turned into a Temporary Toy Factory to help with the Christmas rush.

J.H. Rudolph & Co., Inc. has been creating Christmas parade floats with 100% employee volunteer time for the past 4 years, participating the first three in the Annual Downtown Christmas Parade, which has now become the North Main Street Christmas Parade. The Christmas parade float project is one part of the company’s ‘PAVE IT FORWARD’ community relations program, devoted to giving back to the communities we live and operate in. “We spend a lot of time brainstorming, gathering resources and building this float every year, but when you see the smiling faces on all the kids lined up down Main Street as the float goes by, it makes it all worthwhile.”, commented J.H. Rudolph employee Stephanie Forney.
